Bonjour! (Flashback: December 26th, 2009…) So I convinced my Mom and Dad for a drive to Mayon Volcano at 3:30 in the morning to take pictures of the Lava spewing volcano before the sunrise… 3:30 because it’s just much faster to get there at that time, the highway will be a silken pavement just for us, and it will take us less than 2 hours to get to our destination compared to the usual 3-hour drive with the traffic.

Destination A: Lingñon Hill…

Lingñon Hill is a hill (more like a small mountain) beside Mayon Volcano mainly used for observation/viewing of the Volcano. Phivolcs and other Media was stationed there 24-7 after alert level was announced: {Mayon will erupt it’s biggest & most-hazardous eruption “in decades” anytime now…} Charming and Frightening right? Considering we didn’t know that cars weren’t allowed to go up the hill anymore, we ended up getting a difficult 45-minute hike. enough exercise for 2-days! hahaha! I’m telling you! it wasn’t a breeze at all! We had to take breaks every 15minutes… It was steep, tiring and very very dark.

..

Up the Hill, was a 360° view of Albay–it was nice up there! apart from the sensational views of Mayon Volcano and Lagonoy Gulf, there were all sorts of adventure-activities you can try too! #1 the ATV ride up the hill, #2 ZIPLINE! you can hang on a thin line 200-300 feet above and glide across the hill, #3 Play Paintball & Airsoft. It was definitely a local tourist spot.

Destination B: Cagsawa Ruins…

You wouldn’t think Cagsawa Ruins was in fact buried almost 200-years ago (1814 Mayon Volcano Eruption). I myself thought it was just buried a couple of decades ago, not more than 50-years or so?… but then again it gets buried and re-rebuilt, and buried again and rebuilt again over and over to preserve its famous Stone Bell Tower. That tower withstood the rampage and destruction of Mayon Volcano Eruptions over 200 years! amazing isn’t? Incredibly resilient pile of rocks! hihihi

More on Bicol soon…

Bonne Journee!
